Diagnosis and Management of Endocrine Disorders in Interventional Radiology

Abstract

This chapter will review the clinical, laboratory, and radiologic evaluation of hyperandrogenism. We will discuss the common causes of androgen excess in women, including polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and idiopathic hirsutism, and rarer causes, such as 21-hydroxylase-deficient nonclassic congenital adrenal hyperplasia (NCCAH), hyperandrogenic insulin-resistant acanthosis nigricans (HAIR-AN) syndrome, and androgen-secreting tumors. Clinical features of hyperandrogenism, including hirsutism, acne, androgenic alopecia, ovulatory dysfunction, and virilization, will be discussed. We will also review the appropriate labs and imaging recommended to evaluate hyperandrogenism.
