Abstract

Diet, nutrition, and oral health screening to detect factors influencing the ability to eat and drink and the risk for micronutrient deficiencies and malnutrition can help identify older adults needing intervention early and help prevent or mitigate the severity of problems. This chapter addresses nutrition risk factors and screening of older adults, describes the associations between tooth loss and replacement and diet and nutritional status, and discusses interventions to improve functional ability to eat in the face of tooth loss and replacement with dentures.
