Abstract
In children with cerebral palsy, the control of the upper limbs and the achievement of fine motor skills, such as reaching, grasping, releasing and manipulating, are often delayed over time, limited or completely absent in children with severe motor impairment. Upper limb control and impairments in fine motor skills result from a combination of several factors. A methodological framework for the assessment of upper limbs and the general guidelines of the rehabilitation project is described, aimed at improving the functional use of the upper limbs and, more generally, at facilitating the full participation of the child in all aspects of life, as underlined by the International Classification of Functioning (ICF). To set up a rehabilitation intervention project, it is essential to know the general development of the use of upper limbs in the child, which is briefly outlined here.
