Abstract
Neural, muscle, and connective tissues are fundamental elements for movement, and each of them has its specific role. At the same time, all the different tissues must work together, as integrated component in order to allow efficient motor behavior. The neural tissue is the decision-maker, the muscle is the executor, and the connective tissue functions as the linkage that allows communication between them.
This chapter describes distinct manual approaches—without any specific technique label—to take care of each type of tissue, according to its peculiar intrinsic characteristics. This care has two fundamental goals in a therapeutic project for children with cerebral palsy. One is aimed at preventing, or more realistically delaying, the onset of modifications in the qualitative characteristics of the specific tissues in very young children. The other aim—in favor of pre-/schoolchildren, adolescents, and adults with CP—is to deal with tissue changes that have already occurred or are occurring and treat them manually to direct them to a better working condition.
