Abstract
Mitigating the effects of heavy metals and their subsequent remediation on plants is one of the hot topics of environmental research studies. Application of Bacillus species in this area of research has received considerable attention probably due to the high rate of adaptability and survivability of the species under extreme environments. Bacillus spp. have shown great potential in plant growth enhancement and bioremediation of heavy metal–contaminated soils. More Bacillus–plant physiological studies are required for better understanding of the mitigation mechanisms of Bacillus spp. against heavy metal stress conditions and plant growth promotion. Our findings have successfully shown that Bacilli have multiple beneficial traits which assisted the crop plants either directly or indirectly through plant growth–promoting activities and heavy metal tolerance enhancements.
