Abstract
This design case shows the process and design of two digitally accessible, English as Second Language (ESOL) e-learning modules titled “The ABC Lesson” and “Color Crew.” Each module is specifically designed to teach English to elementary-level children in Haiti by using a culturally situated persona, a girl named Roseline (a common Haitian name), learning objects, and child-centered approaches to design relatable and engaging lessons. In this writing, two graduate students in the instructional design program describe their experiences designing ESOL e-learning modules for Haitian children. We discuss how technology is used as an effective tool to support learners to achieve basic literacy skills. The goal of this design activity was to develop and deliver the modules on digital devices to underserved Haitian children.
