Abstract

Exercise promotes positive effects on the sleep of individuals with and without sleep problems. In addition, it is known that disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea and insomnia, or poor sleep quality, can be improved by exercise training. However, as there are several variables to consider regarding exercise (e.g., intensity, duration, frequency, mode, and timing), it remains unclear how these variables interact to impact sleep for adults. This chapter describes some important aspects of how exercise training relates to sleep.
