Abstract

One of the most iconic images obtained during the Apollo program is certainly the first colour photo of our planet as seen by the Apollo 8 astronauts, the first persons to reach the Moon and orbit around it. As they were emerging from the Moon’s shadow, the astronauts, William Anders, Frank Borman, and Jim Lovell, saw the Earth rising in front of them. Recordings of their conversations testify their amazement at the sight.
