Addition reactions are of three types, viz., electrophilic addition reactions, nucleophilic addition reactions and free radical addition reactions. The electrophilic addition reactions take place in unsaturated compounds like alkenes and alkynes. However, nucleophilic addition reactions take place in compounds containing a carbonyl group.
