Abstract
This chapter examines the relationship between multigrade education and rural development. It draws on six case studies conducted in rural areas in the North West province of South Africa. Education policy, teacher development and teacher support are discussed. The national context of multigrade education is emphasised. Recommendations are also made for how multigrade education can be improved.
