Emergency Remote Teaching and Beyond

Abstract

The COVID-19 outbreak and the stringent measures have left teacher educators and student-teachers in an unprecedented situation, constraining the live, dialogic, collaborative and reflective nature of the practicum in emergency remote teaching (ERT). As a solution, this chapter presents the adaptation of action research into online practicum in 2020 pandemic term. The chapter mainly serves three aims. First, it spotlights the local constraints and needs experienced in the practicum from the perspectives of supervisors, mentors, and student-teachers in ERT. Second, it launches the online action research design for the enactment of the practicum, detailing the data and reflections. Third, aligned with the results, the chapter offers sample lesson plans and implications for future online teaching and research purposes in ERT and beyond for all stakeholders.
