Current State of Child Behavioral Health: Focus on Violence Against Children in Uganda

  • Chapter
  • First Online:
Child Behavioral Health in Sub-Saharan Africa

Abstract

In this chapter, the authors provide a snapshot of the child rights terrain in Uganda comparing the past and present with a focus on violence against children (VAC). They acknowledge progress made by the country in implementing its commitments to children and at the same time highlight the gaps that still exist in the policy and practice. Highlighting critical gaps in VAC-related service delivery particularly pertaining to child mental health, the chapter recommends improved coordination, evidence generation and utilization as well as increased investments in preventive and response services for VAC in Uganda.
