Sustained lifestyle changes including dietary modifications, increased physical activity, and improvement in feelings of wellbeing remain the cornerstone of obesity treatment. The role of commercial weight loss programmes in weight management is still met with an undercurrent of scepticism, this despite the recent increased accessibility and heterogeneity of these programmes. This chapter discusses the current evidence surrounding the potential usefulness of commercial weight loss plans as part of the toolkit to help address the obesity epidemic.
