Abstract

Medical ethics regarding end-of-life care has been updated as it becomes clearer to physicians that they need to provide proper care to terminally ill patients. These changes in the medical ethics code in Brazil have been occurring over the last decade, mostly in response to epidemiological and clinical practice needs. This chapter will briefly show an overview of the Brazilian demographic and epidemiological scenario, providing the background to medical ethics updates concerning end-of-life issues. Additionally, it will consider the current Brazilian ethical perspective on the end of life and its future perspectives.
