Abstract

Sustainability in higher education institutions should mostly be achieved and/or enhanced with concrete actions. This chapter examines the role of knowledge management for sustainable development in universities. Based on the literature synthesis and trends, the aim of this chapter is to propose a conceptual framework for knowledge management in higher education institutions, based on business process modelling principles. The study´s methodology is based on the idea of measuring graduates perception regarding the transferred knowledge by using statistical data and business process management tools. The study was supported by the development of a process framework for knowledge management in order to meet stakeholders’ needs and to improve quality. The framework could be applied in higher education institutions in order to assure sustainable development and to create knowledge and skills for future generations. Also, sustainable universities could be a model for any organization that wants to embark knowledge generation in the process of continuous improvement in its relation with society.
