Christianity and Psychiatry

Abstract

The case of Margie1, a believer in miraculous healing who died of breast cancer, illustrates the meaning of miracles among many African-American Christians, the importance of “seeing” such patients as they come to terms with their dying, and a way of praying with them through the process. Psychiatrists are often positioned to help the medical team recognize and address the spiritual needs of believing patients facing death.
