Abstract

The article presents specific spatial needs, in particular concerning residential architecture in Poland, in view of the global issue of ageing societies.

Societies globally change from generation to generation in terms of their skills, competences and needs, in this the spatial needs.

This article presents, among others, the results of research on preferences of young people regarding their place of residence in the old age, carried out at the PUT. The results are then compared with similar research made 10 years ago. The comparison unambiguously shows that we will need to look for more innovative solutions than the traditional old people’s nursing homes, e.g. co-housing or assisted living in independent apartments are suggested.

To fully and comprehensively present the living conditions of the elderly people in Poland today, the article refers to the reports and research contracted by the Polish government as well as to the data published by the Central Statistical Office.
