Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus is the prototypic autoimmune disease which can present with multiple end organ complications. The disease is complex in its presentation which can vary from mild to severe. Common organ systems involved include the lung, kidney, skin, and brain with no specific identifiable reason. The pathophysiology of SLE remains unclear but has been widely studied and medical management has been refined over the last few decades to the point where there are biological agents for treatment.
