Abstract
The implementation of complex logic functions is a key use of MOSFETs. Since we live in an analog world, however, we must convert analog signals to digital and vice versa. The amplification of analog signals, such as audio, is another important function of transistors, and in this section, we begin the study of MOSFET amplifiers. We will discuss small signal models, which are linear representations of an intrinsically nonlinear transistor. Having a linear model of a transistor greatly simplifies the circuit analysis. We will study three single-transistor amplifier topologies: the common source amplifier, the common gate amplifier, and the source follower.
