Abstract
A diode is a device that only allows current to flow in one direction, and this simple property has numerous applications. Rectification, or the conversion of AC power to DC power, is pervasive in electronics. Whenever a device draws power from a wall socket, it must convert the AC line voltage into a regulated DC voltage to operate the integrated circuits. In this chapter, we will study the architecture of a traditional DC power supply, using a step-down transformer, diodes, and other components.
