Abstract
Despite cursory and not very convincing denials by its defenders, National Public Radio has exhibited a measurable political bias since its founding. Its news coverage and its assumptions have been solidly within the liberal Democratic mainstream, and this tilt has drawn consistent fire from conservatives, libertarians, Republicans, and a number of leftists as well. This chapter presents and assays these bias claims and examines in particular the controversies over NPR’s coverage of the Supreme Court nominees of Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
