Abstract
Where are the women? Archives reveal the women, but often only after much searching! Women’s place in science, their discoveries and valued work in many roles, has often been obscured historically. This chapter reveals how to find women in scientific fields through the use of archival material, and also to describe how these women revealed their work. This may have been only in their sometimes small, contemporaneous field, to their co-workers, rather than the wider sphere which sometimes actually barred them. It investigates how archives continue their legacy of revelation by uncovering the achievements of these scientific women, and their supporters, to a greater audience. ‘Archives Reveal’ in the chapter title is used because the material is there in the archives, and only requires research to reveal them. As an aid and encouragement for would-be researchers in this area, included are suggested places to look within an archive.
