Abstract
This chapter explores the academic integration experiences of international students in South African higher education institutions (HEIs), because South Africa is amongst the preferred destination for international students in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is based on secondary data analysis of the major study conducted across seven South African universities focusing on the reasons for their choice of South Africa, the respective institutions they are studying and their academic and social experiences. The chapter addresses the following research question: How do the academic experiences of international students affect their integration and what are the strategies they use to facilitate their integration within the South African higher education institutions?
