Academic Freedom Under Pressure?

Abstract

Individual academic freedom is under a special threat in private universities. Unlike in state universities, academic freedom may conflict with the basic rights of the university-owners. Such conflicts should be solved primarily by a careful balancing of fundamental rights. Where compromise is not possible, some rough guidelines for conflict resolution can be formulated.
