A Tool for Determining e-Learning Readiness

Abstract

As the need for e-Learning has become increasingly evident, this chapter explains the rationale and reasoning behind the development of the e-Learning readiness tool. It begins with establishing a definition of e-Learning and e-Learning readiness. Both terms have been used with varying meanings. The reasons for using e-Learning have varied among organizations, but always on the forefront of these reasons is the need for organizations to remain competitive. In the past, organizations adopted e-Learning with little preparatory work resulting in the failure of this initiative. In an environment where traditional training approaches have been made difficult or impossible, it has become even more important to figure out the gaps that could pose barriers to implementation of e-Learning.
