Abstract
The Energy Restoration Framework is an integrated framework that encourages exploration and experimentation towards discovering practical strategies to create useable energy to address fatigue. It was developed to address cancer-related fatigue as a way to shift stuck patterns and integrate activities that encourage the expression of qualities that support the person’s needs at a particular moment or phase. The Framework provides an easy-to-follow structure that is intended to be used as part of a lifelong self-care plan adaptable to all who may be recovering from an energy-depleting life event. Core assumptions inherent in the Framework and definitions of energy, restoration and lifelong care are offered to set the scene. The Framework is then presented in a form that features the attributes of energy restoration, domains and elements as subcategories and example expressions for each core attribute. The attributes were developed through a series of empirical research studies, currently represented through the acronym PECAN: P = Purposeful; E = Expanding; C = Connecting/Belonging; A = Awe-inspiring; N = Nourishing. Each attribute is introduced and interpreted loosely as a way of examining and drawing out the potential depth of this creative approach to self-discovery and healing. Definitions of energy, restoration and lifelong self-care are also presented.
