Abstract

Tribalism and Islamic terrorism are destabilizing democracy in Africa more than the problem of the poor. This is because the poor in Africa are still a traditional poor—that is, they live in rural villages and subsist on traditional agriculture and animal herding. In the emerging African cities, the problem of a majority poor will negatively influence politics in the future.
