Abstract

In this introductory chapter, the editors produce a state-of-the-art overview and discussion of the theoretical and methodological opportunities of conducting research about transpacific experiences that can challenge ongoing colonial epistemological paradigms. The chapter highlights the limits and promises of engaging in the study of a dialogue between the two shores of the Pacific in its full complexity. It avoids advocating for the establishment of fixed frameworks, concepts, or approaches. Instead, it embraces a plurality of voices and methodologies. All these voices fight for epistemic justice against oppressive structures of action, knowledge, and representation that have unfairly estranged communication between communities in East and Southeast Asia and Latin America.

Notes

  1. 1.

Own translation.

  2. 2.

Own translation.
