Abstract
People around the world have more leisure time and thus there is a growing impact on our planet from travel and leisure activities. In the last several decades, a number of green initiatives have emerged that consumers can utilize. One of these is local tourism. We often seek out the exotic as an escape without taking the time to deeply understand our local region. However, if we do travel, there are a range of options including green tours, green cruising, green hotels, and sustainably managed golf courses. Ecotourism, adventure tourism, and volunteer tourism can provide distinctly more environmentally focused experiences. Simple, hard and/or expensive, and innovative and/or life-changing approaches to greening your travel and vacations are presented.
