Abstract
In this chapter treats the heat transfer measurement techniques. To measure the surface temperature of a test object, four different instrumentations may be used (1) the thermocouples (TC), (2) infra red thermography (IR), (3) liquid crystal (LC) and (4) pressure/temperature sensitive paints (PSP/TSP). The simplest temperature measurement instrument is the TC, which is capable only of measuring the temperature at discrete points. To obtain the temperature distribution on any surface, a number of TC-s must be applied in a way that they do not disturb the incoming flow. To overcome these problems, several practical and effective solutions are presented. These are (1) Infrared Thermal Imaging (IR), (2) Liquid Crystal (LC) technique and (3) Pressure, Temperature Sensitive Paints (PSP, TSP). In this chapter we discuss these techniques in detail. With these three techniques, the temperature distribution on an entire surface can be measured.
