Abstract
This chapter treats the problematic of compressible Flow. It starts with basic definitions of speed of sound, Mach number and the critical state. Effect of cross-section change on Mach number, the normal shock wave relations is presented. The supersonic flow, normal and oblique shock wave relations, detached shock wave and the Prandtl-Meyer expansion are explained. Unsteady compressible flow, its one-dimensional approximation and its numerical solution is presented using a shock tube. Pressure, temperature and mass transient within a shock tube concludes this chapter.
