Abstract
This chapter deals with the boundary layer heat transfer. A brief introduction is followed by the heat transfer calculation procedure. This procedure includes a set of differential equations that contain the eddy kinematic viscosity, eddy diffusivity of heat and the turbulent Prandl number. This is modeled through the Prandtl mixing length that includes the intermittency function. In this chapter, experimental facilities for steady and unsteady heat transfer measurements including film cooling heat transfer are briefly introduced and extensively discussed in Chap. 15. Measurement techniques such as pressure and temperature sensitive paints (PSP,TSP) for measuring the surface temperature of stationary and rotating surfaces are discussed in this chapter. Three case studies of heat transfer in rotating frame are presented that concludes this chapter. As mentioned, extensive discussion of heat transfer measurement techniques is presented in Chap. 15.
