Abstract
In the Scandinavian countries there is a long historical tradition of voluntary-public sector collaboration. The dominant collaboration has been that the public sector provides financial support to voluntary organisations, but the activities are undertaken by the organisation itself. In recent times, however, a new discourse for the collaboration has emerged with closer collaboration between the two sectors around tasks for which public institutions are responsible. In the Scandinavian countries, this form of collaboration is referred to as collective co-production. The purpose of this book is to shed light on a number of issues in this form of collaboration. The introduction defines different forms of collaboration, discusses ideals and challenges for close collaboration between the public and voluntary sectors, and provides a brief description of all the contributions to the book.
