Abstract

Mesenteric cysts are rare entities that can be found incidentally on imaging, present secondary to symptoms, or present acutely. They are generally benign but have varying degrees of malignant transformation based on the cell type. Various imaging modalities can be used to characterize the cyst and surrounding structures. Surgical interventions are undertaken for acute presentations such as hemorrhage, volvulus, or obstruction. Surgery is also indicated for cysts that are asymptomatic to prevent the development of symptoms and malignant transformation.
