Abstract

The critical illness is associated with a complex metabolic response, which includes catabolic stress and protein mass loss among other processes that are closely related with inflammation [1, 2]. At the same time, many patients suffer from nutritional deficiencies on Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission that may contribute to enhance inflammation and worsen illness severity [2, 3].
