Abstract
Respiratory failure can be determined by several respiratory diseases of different origins. Non-invasive ventilation has been a determining factor in the management of advanced respiratory failure for years, allowing for a significant reduction in tracheal intubation. It is essential for the clinician to know the available technologies, the different ventilation modalities and the monitoring necessary in order to competently face the different settings that can make the difference in the success or failure of non-invasive ventilation in the acute patient.
