Abstract

Potassium is one of the most absorbed macronutrients by crops, having low availability in tropical soils, being important to N metabolism and to ensure high crop yield with quality and low disease incidence. In this chapter, we discuss initially (1) basic aspects of K in the soil; (2) K uptake, transport, and redistribution; (3) K metabolism; (4) nutritional requirements for K in crops; (5) K extraction, export, and accumulation by the main crops; and (6) K deficiency and toxicity symptoms.
