Abstract

The first part of this chapter explores China’s hosting of sporting events since the 1980s. It explains why most of those sporting events were unable to command much attention from the Chinese public. The second part of the chapter introduces the objectives of this book. It also offers a brief outline of the analytical foci of the next seven chapters.
