Abstract

This chapter summarizes the findings and information collected in this book and tries to outline some possibilities of language contact studies in the future for research and policy level recommendations. It is almost essential to implement language revitalization programs at the level of local, provincial and federal government. The concerned stakeholders and language agencies should promote mother tongue and revitalization programs. The trends and patterns of language contact and shift differ in terms of age groups, gender and literacy level. Thus, cross-generational patterns of language contact and shift need to be explored, focusing on the specific mother tongues. Language planning and policy in Nepal has not yet been systematized or taken seriously by the government. The government and concerned stakeholders can adopt the three common models of language planning (Status, Corpus and Acquisition) through a careful management system.
