Abstract

This chapter discusses the idea of smart villages and the evolution of smart village concepts, beginning with the PURA initiative in India, and how different countries, organizations and stakeholders have defined smart villages. It identifies ideal elements of a greenfield smart village and the various financing options for a smart village. Benefits of a smart village implementation are described, including the opportunity to utilize the CSR (corporate social responsibility) funds set aside by private enterprises.
