Abstract

This chapter describes the author’s direct role in the implementation of a Mobile Diagnostic Healthcare Clinic initiative in Thonugal and surrounding villages in Tamil Nadu, India. A history of the telemedicine centre facility at the village is described along with reasons why the centre did not achieve its full objectives. The cloud-based Mobile Diagnostic Clinic was conceived, sponsored and implemented in 2012 by a team from India and Canada, consisting of Meenakshi Mission Hospital, Canada India Foundation and iGrandee Software Technologies. Results obtained from the clinic’s operation demonstrate that this model, a mobile diagnostic clinic supported by a super-specialty hospital with appropriate medical and cloud-based communication and information technologies, can serve the villages of India effectively and enable them to develop into smart villages.
