Abstract
As I left the room a second time, I thought about how much work families must do to advocate on behalf of their child. The old adage “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” came to mind. I felt sad that our families who advocate for what they need might be labeled as angry or difficult rather than just trying to navigate a challenging situation the best they can for their child and family. I told myself that in the future I would ask parents about their emotions rather than assigning labels. I would do better at helping them advocate for their child.
