Abstract
Where I thought that I could partition the work of a physician and a friend, it turns out that these two can work hand in hand. It should not be a forced relationship, however, when that connection feels natural it should be cultivated. This field cannot just be about blood pressures, heart rates, and oxygen saturations. There exists a human nature to patient connection beyond the numbers that should also be fostered. Within this realm, the potential for pain exists, but so too does the potential to learn about the human who is being supported by the machine.
