Abstract
Laparoscopic hepatectomy is becoming more commonly performed around the world for both benign and malignant pathology. Minimally invasive liver resection, including major hepatectomy, have been demonstrated to be feasible and safe, with trends towards less postoperative pain, shorter length of stay, reduced blood loss, lower wound related complications, and more rapid return to intended oncologic therapy compared to the traditional open approach. Importantly, oncologic outcomes have not been shown to be compromised with minimally invasive hepatectomy. In this chapter, we provide detailed descriptions to the laparoscopic approach for both a formal right and left hepatectomy.
