Abstract
The last chapter of the book examines the contemporary issues of sustainability, both resource sustainability, in which water place a central role, and the sustainability of communities and their social relationship, that, again, depend on access to clear and ample water supplies. One of the critical issues implicated in conversations about water is improving the efficiency of water use in agriculture, by far the single largest consuming sector. At the same time, global organizations have adopted sustainable water practices in all sectors as a central focus of international cooperation. One of the readings explores Australia as a case study of the broad impacts of climate change that include changes in rainfall patterns. And finally, the last reading takes a comprehensive look at our understanding of climate dynamics in Africa, as well as the potential consequences of climate change on the continent.
