Reference Framework for Measuring the Level of Technological Acceptance by the Elderly: A Virtual Assistants Case Study

Abstract

The elderly people often have problems with the use of technology. That is why today there are and are being generated a diversity of systems and applications adapted to this kind of user, to facilitate communication with their social environment, and serve as support for their daily tasks. Motivation and technological acceptance are very important and key aspects to ensure the usability of technological systems by the elderly. Issues related to such a situation can be solved with a good definition of requirements, which allows identifying the true characteristics and functionalities that this kind of user expected to find in these products. Technology developed for the elderly must meet their essential expectations so that they accept and adopt it in their daily lives. This paper shows the results of a study developed to identify the intention of a group of the elderly to use intelligent virtual assistants, and the activities in which they consider these devices would be useful.
