Transmission of Multiplex Signal to Broadcasting Network: Interface ETI

Abstract

The programs and services multiplexed in an ordered sequence of logical frames form the multiplex signal (ensemble), according to specification of the system. After convolution, encoding a multiplex frame will be transformed into a logical DAB frame. The encoding increases the volume of the frame and alike the demand for the throughput of multiplex signal, i.e., the cost of its transmission to the transmitters. The economics of distributing the signal from the output of the DAB server to transmitters of the single-frequency network indicates a reason to transmit multiplex signal before convolution coding (instead of a full DAB signal). Transmission of the multiplex signal can be realized through the various types of links (satellite, radio lines, public or leased telephone, etc.). To make such transmission of multiplex signal independent on the type of link – the transport of multiplex was unified by the interface specification named Ensemble Transport Interface (ETI).
