Abstract
Starting with this chapter, we discuss general properties of conformal field theories (CFT). The goal is not to be exhaustive, but to provide a short introduction and to gather the concepts and formulas that are needed for string theory. However, the subject is presented as a standalone topic such that it can be of interest for a more general public.
The conformal group in any dimension is introduced in this chapter. The specific case Dā=ā2, which is the most relevant for the current book, is developed in the following chapters.
