Abstract

Primary malignancies of the penis, urethra, and ureters are uncommonly referred for management with radiation therapy. The limited evidence for the efficacy of radiation for these rare malignancies is therefore not related to an intrinsic biological radioresistance, but a bias toward surgical management. Despite this pattern of care, primary radiation therapy can be used in the curative-intent setting, or as an adjuvant to surgery, both with or without chemotherapy depending on the clinical context. Given the rarity, it is critical persons diagnosed with penile, urethral, or ureteral cancers should be managed by multidisciplinary expert teams whenever practical.
