Abstract

The pulmonary artery catheter (PAC) has served to provide clinicians with vital data to help guide therapies for hemodynamically unstable patients since the 1970s. While the utilization of PACs in the intensive care units has declined given the progression of less invasive technologies, there are specific patient populations that benefit from their use. The advanced clinical practitioner must be aware of the indications for their use as well as how to perform the procedure in the event it is necessary.
